Hello, I’m Ahmed.

My Mission

I believe that people can do great things. So, I work to liberate people from the mundane by researching and developing robotics and automation solutions and teaching. This frees people to target higher-order tasks in creativity and innovation. Together, we can build the future where everyone is making the world a more beautiful place.

My Approach

My research was about automating the loading of the automatic screen printing press. This involves an operator putting garments on the machine, so I started with the machine itself, and created a scientific model to represent it in our lab. Then I analysed the loading motion with markers and motion capture. This formed the Cartesian robot trajectory for the ABB Yumi robot. I used ROS to interface with the robot and run a program to carry out the motion; forming the open-loop implementation. Then this was improved with force feedback as human operators adjust their positioning to load garments successfully. Then I added wrinkle detection using RGB and Depth camera to detect and correct wrinkles, ensuring that the garment is wrinkle-free and print ready.

My teaching philosophy follows on from my mission statement, I believe that my students are capable and can meet the high standards I set. I work as a guide to show them how to learn, changing their thinking processes and improving their skills. I centre my approach around developing independent, collaborative engineers who solve problems effectively and care about their work. I work with them to explore their values and their own mission statements so that they know why they are doing what they do. I also incorporate cutting edge research and pedagogical techniques in my teaching to make sure that my students have a stable core and can adapt to the modern world’s challenges.

I founded LASER - The Liverpool Association for Space Engineering Research; a student group that aims to bring people together through the research and development of satellites, rockets and rovers. This was a massive success, and after launching 3 rockets at the UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship, we won first place! I am so proud of all the students who contributed to this and I’m excited to see the future of the group.
